Joy is an essential ingredient of our life, an ingredient that we want and that we hope will come to us.
When this does not happen, we may feel that we are being mistreated. That things are not going well for us. That bad things are always happening to us, almost as if they were purposely created to make us unhappy.
If we persist in this position, maintaining this attitude that everything is going to go wrong, most likely it will.
Because?
Because we tend to see only what we want to see, what we think about.
Therefore, if we focus our attention on “negative” thoughts, we will stop seeing and feeling all the good that surrounds us and that we have in us.
Creating joy
Ajahn Brahm gives us some very simple ideas on how to avoid falling into this vicious circle.
He urges us to focus our attention on the positive side of things, to make a habit of creating our own joy.
Always with a lot of humor, he dismantles several “negative” situations and challenges us to always feed our joy.
“Instead of complaining all the times, why not just be at peace with who you are?”
Deep down, the root of most “problems” is not life, it’s our attitude towards it.
It’s not the events, it’s the way we react to them.
So, it’s up to us to change our attitude and have a happier life, as Ajahn Brahmh teaches us - passing on his wisdom through some good stories and humor.
Let’s start creating more joy, everyday!
