Dear Diary…
You are all going to think this is absolutely wild, but I was today years old when I realised that Facebook Creator Studio can auto-publish carousels and stories for Instagram. And what’s even wilder? When I asked the 34,000 other social media managers on my Instagram if they knew, 65% also had no idea (!!!)
Three things about that:
1) WTF
2) I’m very glad it wasn’t just me who didn’t know. Makes me feel slightly less ridiculous for needlessly manually posting carousels for what appears to be years. Another thing I’ll be leaving off my CV…
3) Where are all the decent Creator Studio and Business Manager tutorials? I’ve managed to get a great resource for you all, but we had to have someone make it bespoke 🤯
Anyway, here we are: for the 65% of you who are also living in not-so-blissful ignorance, here’s how to auto-publish carousels and stories. I can’t promise it will solve all your social media problems, but hopefully it will be a start.
After all that, let’s get to it amigos. What do I have in store for you this week?

That's you, huns!
That's you, huns!
It’s always data, darlings…
The social media world moves QUICKLY. I don’t know about you, but my strategy decks feel outdated almost as soon as I’ve finished them.
Remember the time we were trying to work out how to best use Fleets? No, me neither
Anyway, here’s the secret sauce to keep your plans up-to-date with the latest data on social media trends, the internet and more. Find out everything you need to know about the state of the social media nation and keep those strategies ✨ fresh ✨
How much do Social Media Managers REALLY get paid?
Well, well, well… This is certainly an interesting one, friends. @milkkarten released the results of her long-awaited Social Media Managers compensation survey… and it makes for a cracking read.
Step one: find out how much you can expect to be paid throughout your career, across different industries and job titles.
Step two: take that knowledge all the way to the bank for your next job interview…
The government account giving out all the laughs…
All government accounts are stuffy and boring, right? Not this one, babies!
Meet the Princess of Puns and the King of K9s… It’s none other than the TSA. Yes, you heard me. The official account for the Transport Security Administration. Otherwise known as the stern faced individuals looking after safety at all major US transit hubs… and their Instagram account is pure jokes.
I mean, any account that can have me turning on my post notifications to find out about what’s allowed in carry on luggage is doing something right. We stan. We also want to know who gave sign off for this approach. Because honestly, there are legends among us.
Ok, this one is for all my hardcore meme lovers…
I’ll admit that this one is a little niche. But you know me. I love a meme.
What you might not know is that I also love a little history. So what could be better than this TikTok account, documenting the HISTORY of MEMES?! (stay with me)
Most memes actually have a pretty interesting history, and usually a lot of cultural context surrounding them. Which is super relevant for any brand utilising them in their content strategy… Social Kings and Queens know that context is everything.
If you’re in to your memes, it’s an absolute must follow. And please reply to this email if that’s you, because I’m on the hunt for friends who love a meme as much as me. It’s a lonely world.

we're sorry or you're welcome
It’s the self awareness for me 👏
Every week, social media managers (anonymously) spill the beans…
Tell me a little about you and your role
I’ve been in social for 7+ years (!!) for a bunch of different brands and I’m currently Sr. Social Media Manager for an established wellness company in NYC.
Favourite thing about working in social
Coming up with memes. I pinch myself sometimes that I get paid to conduct meme-storms where we just brainstorm memes for an hour.
Least favourite thing about working in social
Everyone thinks they can run social because they have an Instagram.
Your top tip
There’s nothing that impresses higher ups more than aggregating all the impressions in a report. Had a post perform poorly in terms of engagement? No problem! Put the impressions down.

Your favourite meme of the week

Although Bill Murray is probably too cool to be Facebook tbh...
Here we are. At the end of another week of my musings. Thanks for spending five minutes in the little corner of the internet. If you giggled, learnt something new, or just for a moment forgot about the amount of emails in your inbox, my work here is done.
Remember, my DMs are always open. Send me your secrets and confessions, or just let me know a little about you and your life as a social media manager. I’ll keep it all safe. Before publishing it on the internet, of course.
Work in social they said. It’ll be fun, they said.
Peace out ✌️
