Ooooooh FASHION! Studio Notes #31

Once upon a time, back in high school, I wanted a career in fashion. Not as a designer – I knew I couldn’t face the sewing – but as a buyer. My dreams and plans have changed significantly since then, and I’ve come to basically hate most things about the fashion industry, but I still love looking at the runway show round-ups every autumn.
I don’t dress fashionably, nor do I want to. My design output is slow enough that I cannot aspire to designing to fit trends. But oh, I love to look! I love to flick through big fat magazines! (Textile View is my favourite. Less runway, more long-term colour and mood forecasting.) Fashion at its best is so beautiful, and so fun. The fantasy of it is so seductive. I’d like to bring just a smidge more of that fantasy into all of my own work.

And finally
As announced on my blog earlier, I’m really excited to be part of The Knitting Goddess’s new shawl club. The idea of a mini-skein shawl club is so cool, and I’ve come up with an idea I can’t wait to work up. Take a look at all her 2018 clubs – there’s even a no-commitment pay-as-you-go option! And stay tuned for more news about my collaborations with Joy over the next year.
Happy making!
