Embrace your multifaceted self: Studio Miranda Issue #4

You know how sometimes you keep seeing or hearing things on the same topic? Not quite Baader-Meinhof, more just something in the air. Right now it’s meta-blogging on the theme of having a niche – or not. European Mama argues that niche blogging goes against our multifaceted lives, which I wholeheartedly endorse.  And this one argues that you are your niche – that your voice is the point – which, again, I couldn’t agree with more. I read both right after publishing my own messy manifesto (far too grandiose a word of course!) and am embracing what I choose to claim as a groundswell in anti-niche blogging, because it suits me. I mean, case in point, this newsletter. I’m having so much fun with it but what’s it about? Mostly it’s “stuff that interests me”, which is (ahem) a pretty broad category.* Oh well. Shall we dive in?

* I’m being a bit flippant. There is actually a clear list in my head of things that belong in this letter: things about running a creative business (including social media), craft and creativity in general. So, for instance, grammar jokes and feminist rants aren’t going to turn up here. You’ll have to follow me on Twitter for those.

How to do business
The sex & cash theory
When you should work for free
How to get more website traffic
How to do art (and how not to)
An Artist Residency in Motherhood
Baaaad form
And finally
Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s rain outside, nobody inside but me (kids are off with their wonderful grandparents), and I have patterns to write. Happy Tuesday!

PS Soundtrack to this letter: the sooothing “Feel for You” by Seeed. Ahhh. Isn’t that better?
