What's on Weibo

There are so many hot topics on Chinese social media during this hot summer - Weibo’s censors must be busy! Online discussions on China’s position in the US-North Korea standoff were not viewable today, and the ’heart-shaped boob challenge’ we first wrote about last week has been completely taken offline. At the same time, WeChat & Weibo are under investigation for failing to meet the guidelines of the Cyberspace Administration. Read all about it in our latest articles.
Also, we’d like to welcome our new subscribers who registered over the past week. Many of you found us through the New York Times or Dutch Radio 1, and we’re happy you did. (If you understand Dutch: you can check out the interview with editor-in-chief Manya Koetse here about social media & censorship in China.)
