Alentejo's Region Labour Conditions | Arrests & Rejections

Aristea from Solomon

Hello there,
Alentejo region in Portugal, historically known for the production of grains, is one of the main areas undergoing rapid agricultural intensification. In order to meet the growing need and the market’s low prices, the country is often, and increasingly, relying on undocumented migrant labour. Find below the top-notch photo essay by Diana Takacsova. A project funded by the National Geographic Society.
In other news, probably you will remember Christos Pappas, who has been on the run since last October when he and other Golden Dawn leaders were convicted of running a criminal organization linked to hate crimes. Greek police finally arrested the deputy leader of the neo-Nazi party on Thursday in Athens. Pappas was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
