We’re the cover story for the April 2021 issue of the Concrete Herald! Editor Jason Miller interviewed Board of Trustees Jeff Maher and Library Programs Associate Chazlyn Lovely about the move to the new building and pandemic restrictions, and got a great photograph of Library Assistant Tina Warren and Library Technology Specialist Loly Gomez for the front cover!

Library Update
(Originally published in the Concrete Herald)
We are in the new building! It’s full of boxes and chaos, but we are, finally, gloriously, here.
The number one question everyone has been asking – “when do we get to come in?” is a tough one to answer. Under Washington State’s Healthy Washington – Roadmap to Recovery guidelines, while we are at Phase 3 and are allowed some limited in-person services, libraries are held to slightly different standards than, say, restaurants or movie theaters. Instead of opening right away, we’re going to take this time to finish moving into the new building and go through our treasure-trove of goodies in our storage unit so that by the time its easier for our patrons to come inside and see the new building it looks great! (Also, staff would have their vaccinations!) As always, operations updates can be found on our web site and social media; we’ll let you know when things change!
Speaking of change, we have a new phone number: 360-853-7716. Internet service at Marblemount Community Hall has been restored and our free public Wi-Fi should be available at the new building and in Bear Square by the time this issue of the Concrete Herald is released.
Creating and distributing programming has been difficult during the move: we had intended on continuing releasing videos for our programs and holding Zoom meetings, but as you can tell that hasn’t been the reality. We’re hoping to get back to normal programming soon, but just note that the programs calendar on our web site is always subject to change while our staff is trying to get settled in.
For more info on operations, programs, and materials, as well as non-traditional resources like our Washington State Discover Pass, Wi-Fi hotspots, tablets, new Mobile Printing Service, and upcoming Skagit Audubon Society Family Birdwatching kit, check out our web site, upperskagitlibrary.org. Be sure to see all of our social media outlets listed on our website as well!
