Up In This Brain! 7 - Someone is staring at you in personal growth

Last week I set up a project in my Todoist named Personal Growth. Within it are daily reminders to do stuff like fill out the evening entry in my five year journal (I typically remember to do this) and take a bit of time for meditation (has not happened yet) along with other tasks that are not as much tasks as they are, well, personal growth. It’s nice to have things in my daily list that are not to do’s like take the car for an oil change. These are I’d like to do’s.

Retiring my hair product
I have finally given up on putting product in my hair. My last tube of TRESemme Mega Firm Control Hair Gel sits in my drawer unused. I’ve been using it or something close to it for years to keep the wild hairs from popping up in the wind or whatever but a couple of months ago I thought who cares. Let’s let the hairs do what they want. I’m lucky to still have them. Now I comb then brush then take on the day and my hair is free to take on whatever form it wants.

Jason's Radio Corner: Grundig S450DLX Field Radio
I’m finally bringing back to radio corner to talk about my Grundig S450DLX Field Radio - a real gem of a radio with a great speaker. I think the form factor makes it even more fun to use. It has a huge dial knob and is a nice sized solid radio.
Pardon the dust. I hate dusting.
Pardon the dust. I hate dusting.
It has great shortwave reception partly due to the HUGE antenna. I grab the radio and go sit on the deck and just tune up and down the bands and this radio finds signals all over. Are most of them lousy commercial/religious/weirdo broadcasters? Unfortunately, yes.
Look at that rod! That's what she said.

Even the keys light up! They thought of almost everything!
The ol knob twist!

What they didn’t think of is a decent memory system so I never use saved frequencies. I just go up and down the dial like the folks who ended up working at WKRP.
There is also a terribly annoying beep when you turn on the radio that cannot be turned off.
Aside from all of that, it’s a winner. Love it. Never getting rid of it.
Jason's Bag Corner Preview
Remember my Fjallraven Raven 20 backpack from issue 5?
Fjallraven, not Fahrvergnügen
Fjallraven, not Fahrvergnügen
They make a mini version of this backpack, the Raven Mini, and it is visually identical to this bag just smaller like Rick Moranis was in Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. I have found one of these bags cheap and it is on the way for me to share next week. Exciting?
Thoughts with expiration dates
Whenever I think of something to share here, I make a note in the Todoist app but by the time I am in front of the laptop putting this together, most of those notes are no longer valid. Some are ideas I no longer care about and some I no longer remember why I wanted to share them.
The urgency I felt over something yesterday might be gone today and this is a good reason why to remember to let certain annoyances since out on the counter for a day or two before reacting to them because time has a way of diluting even the most emotionally fueled thoughts in short order.
Over and out
What a nice surprise it was to have the latest issue of Dicks ‘n Janes land in my inbox this week. This newsletter would not exist if it were not for my enjoyment of the Dicks 'n Janes zine and, of course, my weird desire to share all of the odd things I like with you, valued reader.
Finally, I got COVID vaccine shot #2 yesterday so I am teeming with antibodies. I feel the invincibility!
See you next Friday!
Did you enjoy this issue? Yes No
