The mixed divisions have been fascinating, given that there’s never been mixed ultimate at a juniors event before. The Hungarians are setting the pace so far but at 09.00 (CET) we’ll stream the two leading contenders for bronze as hosts Poland play Belgium. The Belgians lost a close one to second-placed Italy earlier in the tournament and could still make the final but they have to win this one to get there.
Next up at 11.00 we have Italy against Canada in the under-20 women’s division. These two are the top teams in pool D, the recovery pool where the top two get a chance to make the bracket to win the title. The winner of this one will almost certainly make the 4v5 game rather than the 3v6, and if they win that will avoid the top seeds. Big game for both teams.
Next up at 13.00 is the Netherlands against Israel in the under-20 mixed division. These two teams are in recovery pool C and only the top team gets a chance at a medal. The Dutch have been the best team outside the top three so far but they have to win three games to try and get into the medals. That starts here!
The Swiss have been the third-best team in the under-17 open division but they play the Dutch at 15.00 tomorrow in an important game. The Dutch have had close games with everyone so far but have come out with three losses to one win. A Swiss win sets up two vital games against Germany and Great Britain to try and win a medal, but the Dutch are not to be overlooked here.
Finally, we have the main event of the day. France hung with the United States for the first half of their game, the USA taking half 8-6 by one break. The French fell away a bit in the second half but are clearly a team to watch. They play the Czech team that has beaten France and then shockingly topped Canada on universe point to top their pool and knock the Canadians into the lower bracket. The Czechs could be a surprise contender for the gold medal and will be coming off a huge game against the USA earlier in the day, so this game could be HUGE for placement in the bracket.
As you can see, there’s LOADS going on in Poland and we’ll be bringing it to you. The under-17s games are on the Ulti.TV YouTube channel and the under-20 games are on the WFDF channel. We’ll be there - make sure you are too!
