(ノ´▽`)ノ♪ Nº214 Sisters with Transistors 🔌 📻

hey, it’s been a minute. 😅
How’s it going? January has been quite the kickoff for 2021 but mostly fun!
I don’t have a list of inspirational bullet points this week but a film tip in case you haven’t already seen it: Sisters with Transistors (you knew I’d like that title!) is a documentary film by Lisa Rovner about the overlooked female pioneers of electronic music.
“We women were especially drawn to electronic music when the possibility of a woman composing was in itself controversial. Electronics let us make music that could be heard by others without having to be taken seriously by the male-dominated Establishment.” Laurie Spiegel
Openculture.com’s Josh Jones makes the great point that though technology as a liberator may sound silly to our jaded 21st-century ears as tech is blamed for its misuses and abuses nowadays. But he reminds us that machines have very often been a means of social progress, like when “bicycles promised freedom to women long accustomed to relying on men for transportation.”
This documentary answers the question: “Why are there no ‘great’ women in electronic music?” Because you haven’t heard them yet!

as always, thank you for reading,
