Hello!
Can you believe it? We’re two weeks out from the end of everyone’s least favorite year ever. Even the people I know who had a ‘good’ year, don’t call it anything other than a bad year. And, as Boris says below: “2021 won’t be a cakewalk either.” 😅
At least for Twotone, this year is wrapping up with some new client kickoffs, some great launches, media wins & market growth for some long-standing customers, and a modest 6-year anniversary cycling cap (They look awesome!) that we’ll put up for pre-order soon instead of our annual anniversary party at our office.
Last year ‘s was a rager!
So, this week I poked around for articles, bullet points, and fodder for the typical action-oriented preamble that prefaces this nearly weekly missive over the past 211 issues.
Anything from a bittersweet recap to a handful of reasons to have the hope that 2021 will bounce us back to normal would have been fine. (Is 'normal’ even what we’re after at all?) Right as I realized that that silver bullet article didn’t exist…
I found
Wajahat Ali‘s one day old
NYT OpEd & spoiler alert:
“most of the issues that made 2020 feel like a horror story will roll along with us into the new year.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“[We] us must confront the brutal realities head-on. Let’s resolve to be patient and steadfast. Let’s resolve to spend 2021 fighting for science, facts, democracy and compassion and repairing all that was lost in 2020. After a full year of that, maybe — just maybe — 2022 will be better.” - Wajahat Ali
To me, this is the most succinct manifesto to adhere to in 2021.
Next year isn’t gonna bounce back out of the gate.
Nope, next year is about the long game.
We’ve got awhile to wait for it to get great. ❤️
In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday & happy new year in whatever semblance of celebration & corona-compatible closeness you can with your family & friends!
and, as always, thank you for reading,
Jon
