“Senator, I do not know the answer to that, but I can have my team follow up with you afterwards.”
- Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg like… a billion times yesterday.
Facebook: Zuckerberg's Defers Questions
The circus that happened yesterday at the Commerce and Judiciary Committee hearing turned the tide for Facebook. As predicted, the senators were pretty uninformed about how Facebook works and Zuckerberg deferred their questions to his team at least 18 times.
The best analysis we heard was kind of how all of us feel in this situation: we want to express our anger over the naive recklessness of how Facebook has handled our data, but nobody really knows what to do next…or how to hold them accountable.
"Must appear to be human. Must smile."
Facebook (again!) : Influencers Unhappy & More Bad Behaviour Found
Speaking of Facebook, Congress isn’t the only one who wants to grill Zuckerberg. Recent changes made by the company to prioritize family and friend’s posts have left influencers complaining. Add this to the news that Facebook has suspended the analytics firm, CubeYou for Cambridge Analytica-like behaviour and it looks like things are not blowing over as quickly as expected.
"Humans also sustain themselves on H20. Must appear to require this."
Viral: Water Way To Conduct An Interview
Simple but brilliant. We’ll set the scene for you: BBC Breakfast’s Mike Bushell was interviewing some Commonwealth Game hopefuls and fell into a swimming pool. Instead of going with the flow, the reporter went off the deep end and is now in some hot water. Twitter is all over this one, understandably.
He should've BB-seen the step.
Twitter: 66% Of Links Come From Bots
Just how much influence do bots have on Twitter? Well, over 2/3rds of links come from them… so, yeah. The Pew Research Center studied over a million Twitter accounts and found that of the 66%, it was mostly just porn, sports, and commercial stuff. We’d rather have bots plugging porn than influencing elections, but still - let’s get rid of them altogether, please.
