Netflix Raises Membership Fees
Netflix monthly cost increase went into effect today by 10% for their standard and premium U.S. plans. The price change will continue to roll out to members over the course of the next months, though price hikes have already rolled out across the platform in other countries (including Canada). The new fees are due to ‘improved features’, but we’re glad that we’re getting new Canadian produced content out of the deal!
So what's an extra couple bucks for premium content?

Podcasts Move To Tiny Audience
As podcasts are slowly, but surely expanding into a mainstream audience, they are looking to a whole new demographic: kids! It makes sense, though, right? As we enter the era of voice, the next generation will be totally comfortable with asking Siri to pull up their favourite podcast full of bedtime stories. Thank you, beautiful, super sweet, slightly spicy, fall-flavoured cup of pure joy.

Vice Protects Advertisers
After the great YouTube advertiser safety crisis in March, publishers are going the extra mile to make sure advertisers’ work doesn’t appear next to their more controversial pieces. Vice in particular has created a tool called Unity with Grapeshot to divert advertisers to other parts of their site, rather than to some of their racy content, based on the keywords used on the page (think “violence” or “nudity”). View the full breakdown of this new advertiser safety tool on Digiday.
