Social: A Double-Edged Sword?
This super interesting article (courtesy of The Detroit News) shows how the social-savvy Seven Mile Bloods gang have used Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to organize hits and basically run an entire cartel. Unsurprisingly, the downside to running a gang via a public online forum is that these exact online forums are now being used against them as evidence… Whoops. Memewatch: LeBronto Raptors
As a Toronto-based agency, it really pains us to do this, but duty calls. Our beautiful city is the centre of a new meme. We have to admit, the examples are pretty funny.
Let's move on, shall we? 😉
Facebook: Ad-Free Subscription?
Facebook is reportedly testing a paid ad-free subscription service. In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the apparent reason for this is not financial, but to prevent people from leaving the platform. Remember when Facebook’s homepage used to say “It’s free and always will be”? Well, Zuckerberg changed that to “There will always be a version of Facebook that is free” during his testimony, last month.
Vine 2: We Hardly Knew Ye
Remember how excited we were when we learned that Vine would be returning from the grave? Well, it might be DOA. Co-founder, Don Hofmann announced that Vine 2 will be postponed indefinitely due to “estimated costs” and a “larger-than-expected audience”. That’s twice you’ve broken our hearts, Vine.
