The Hashtag Turns 10!
It seems like just yesterday that people were saying “hash-what?” but it’s been 10 years since Chris Messina tweeted the proposal that twitter adopts the hashtag to organize conversations. Since then, there have been mass movements, funny memes and face palm fails with hashtags. Happy birthday little guy! #Hashtag10.
P.s. Little known fact, our very own President, Tara Hunt was right there with Chris when the hashtag was born. They were running Citizen Agency together!
You've come a long way from the "pound sign" little guy!

Stealth Salmon
Thousands of Atlantic Salmon have escaped into the Pacific Northwest, using the eclipse as a diversion tactic. Okay, not really, but thousands of fish did escape into the Pacific waters from an aquaculture facility. The accident is thought to be caused by the eclipse earlier this week, that triggered higher than normal tides, allowing the fish to escape their thresholds. Quartz.
These fish sure are slippery.

Victory For Fair Use
The couple behind popular YouTube channel H3H3 Productions has finally received a ruling in the case against them, after nearly a year and a half of litigation. The couple behind H3H3 had defended their reaction video claiming fair use on the platform, against Matt Hoss’s claims of defamation, DMCA misrepresentation, and copyright infringement. H3H3 has won the case, and inspired confidence in fair use for many YouTubers (much like Tara’s video from last year). Tubefilter.
It looks like H3H3 has made YouTubers feel safe again!

Buyer Beware!
The Financial Post revealed that researchers at IoActive Inc have discovered Universal Robots to be vulnerable to hacking, and could even be programmed to injure the humans around them. The robotic arms are meant to operate as “collaborative industrial robotic arms”, with intentions of assisting humans to complete tasks without safety guards. Even running at a low speed, IoActive Inc. was able to manipulate the arms to perform tasks it was not programmed for, proving any hacker could do the same.

Affleck Ditches DC
Ben Affleck has officially dropped out as the DC movie Universe’s Batman, after months of speculation. He’d expressed concerns about the upcoming Batman film in the past and even dropped off Directing the film earlier this year, so it shouldn’t really surprise anyone that he’s bowing out of the franchise altogether. Who will replace him? Only time (and Warner Bros PR team) will tell.

Bring Vacation Right Into Your Office
Jetblue has launched a unique ad campaign to target the workaholics in the office; selling kitsch office decor to celebrate the times you would have been on vacation. The travel organization has created the line of decorative plates, mugs, candles, and figurines bearing slogans such as “let’s circle back to that”, and,  “remember those free bagels?”. JetBlue’s line is created to illustrate the sad truth of their market research, that we love to celebrate those times we spent on vacation, but are actually spending less time away from the office than ever before.
