Did Social Media Ruin Grammar? And Does It Matter? | Truly Social With Tara Hunt
This time around, Tara talks about the grammatical wrist-straps we all tie ourselves to when using social. If language is always evolving with culture, doesn’t it make sense that the internet (one of the biggest cultural inventions) has an inevitable effect on it? So next time you’re dropping LMAOs and LMKs, don’t worry about it.
It'll make our dictionaries more interesting, at least.

TSI Lands At SXSW
There’s a lot of stuff coming out of South by Southwest today. We wanted a closer look so we sent 3 of our Truly Socialites. They also ran a Creative Industries Rookie Meet Up so we’re feeling pretty proud right about now. 😊
Sorry @mashvass, but somebody had to hold the camera.

Our SXSW Picks Of The Day:
#Metoo finally being taken seriously at the convention (after 2015’s awful handling of the GamerGate controversy) with over 50 events/panels tackling the problem of gender issues and sexual harassment. It’s a good start, but let’s remember that 2015 was just 3 years ago, not 60, like how it felt reading about it.
HBO’s interactive Westworld experience. Conference attendees were able to step into Sweetwater after weeks of set up and teasing. We’re loving just how meta it is to have an immersive experience about an immersive experience. It brings a new meaning to the term “Cowboy marketing”!
Elon Musk’s Q&A. Sure, we write a lot about Mr. Musk & SpaceX, but apparently, but these attendees were something else. Catch his comments on his plans for Mars colonization and the dangers of AI (something, we’ve touched on too)
Michelle Obama at SXSW '16. Slowly but surely, the bigger questions are being asked.

Tweetdeckers, Your Time Has Come
Like stealing tweets? Well, you’re gonna love account suspension, too. Stepping away from SXSW for a second, there’s been a lot of big news in social, today. Twitter began the first wave of Tweetdeck account suspensions, focusing on some pretty high-profile accounts. To anyone currently operating within the Tweetdeck network, we say this:
You've been Twit-Terminated.

Giphy In Trouble For Racist Gif
Ugh. Come on, Giphy. You’re better than this. When Snapchat announced Giphy integration earlier this year, we were excited. However, an offensive gif seems to show up regularly when users searched for “crime”. Giphy’s terms of service tells users not to post offensive content, and they only remove said content after the fact. Time for a review of your TOS perhaps? In any case, both Instagram & Snapchat are out.
Get it together, Giphy!

Have a happy World Day Against Cyber Censorship from all of us here at Truly Social!
