Apple Closes Out Year Less Diverse
It’s been a rough year for the tech industry. When we think about the amount of sexual harassment, misconduct, and blatant sexism/racism/ageism, you’d think they’d want to leave the year on a quiet note. But Apple’s first VP of Diversity and Inclusion is already throwing in the towel. It may be because of some controversial statements she made in Colombia, or something more closely related to the tech powerhouse’s other problematic systems. Either way, we’re not sure yet.
Sorry Apple, but you're not getting any gold stars for this one.

Gen Z's Snappy Habits Revealed
Frankly, who can decipher anymore what Gen Z is up to? In an attempt to break down their favourite social networks (Instagram & Snapchat), AdWeek has created a helpful rating system with the help of an actual Gen Zer to help you discover why both of these apps are favoured by this young group.

Facebook Shuts Out Unilad
Hmm… it’s not like there’s a shortage of Facebook pages that steal and re-purpose viral content, but Unilad, one of the most popular pages on the platform, was taken down for a few hours. Facebook has refused to comment, but it was a big wake-up call for the publisher community that their 34 million likes could be taken away at the platform’s whim.
What we imagine the Unilad offices looked like when they found their page was gone.

None More Vantablack
This is basically the most metal thing you’ll hear about today. A substance called Vantablack has been launched publicly as a feature of the Olympic stadium architecture, and toted as the darkest material on Earth. Black is the absence of colour, and Vantablack absorbs 99.6% of all light that hits it.
Of course, people have been asking for years how they can get a hand on the substance...to wear it, eat it, etc 🙄.

Mashable Sold For "Measly" $50 Million
Is Buzzfeed set to take over? Digital Media company Mashable has been sold to Ziff-Davis for what some journalists are calling a paltry $50 million. Though the company was valued at $250 million in March of 2016, they switched from raising more money shortly afterwards to focusing on a sale, as their work shifted from trendy videos to branded content creation.
$50 million isn't exactly chump change.
