Shazam gets Shazam'd By Apple
A spokesperson for Apple confirmed to BuzzFeed today that the music recognition platform, Shazam is the latest acquisition by the tech giant. However, the sale is rumoured to have been for far less than previously expected, at around $400 million. Now let’s just hope that Apple finds a way for Shazam to recognize that awful rendition of the song your Dad did at karaoke that one time.

YouTuber Cements Own Head Into Microwave. Is Somehow Surprised By Results.
The Darwin Award this year goes to U.K. YouTuber TGFbro, who managed to answer the age-old question of “what would happen if I cemented my own head inside a microwave?” The answer, of course, is that you run out of air very quickly. Don’t worry folks, he turned out fine. It could be worse, there could be a permanent reminder of this embarrassing event online for everybody to see- Oh, wait.

Twitter To Host Event Featuring All Female Speakers
Twitter CMO, Leslie Berland will host the #HereWeAre event featuring all-female speakers such as Myrna Soto (Comcast), Linda Boff (General Electric), and Kimberly Bryant (Black Girls Code). The inception of this event comes as a direct response to the backlash against the all-male lineup scheduled to headline CES 2018. Personally, we think we’ve found the best way to settle this:

I Am Become Death. The Destroyer Of Worlds.
In an admission that reminds us of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s regret after seeing his creation (the Atomic Bomb), former Facebook executive, Chamath Palihapitiya has stated that he has “created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works.” Admitting that this is a global issue, he has also recommended that people take a hard break from social media. Just make sure to come back in time for tomorrow’s Daily Distraction 😉.
