Casey Neistat Leaves Beme As CNN Consumes It
Casey Neistat has announced his departure from Beme, as CNN revealed plans to shut it down and bring it in-house. The video platform was created in 2014 and was acquired for $25 million by CNN in 2016. Last year saw various platforms fall, let’s hope this trend doesn’t continue. 😞

Google Doodle Reminisces About Brain Bamboozle
Wilder Penfield, the world-famous neurosurgeon is the subject of today’s Google Doodle. Why is this being covered in today’s #yourdailydistraction, you ask? Well, it’s a great example of misinterpretation creating a pre-internet era meme. Sit down kids, it’s story time: the word “meme” actually predates internet memes. So something doesn’t have to recent or come from the internet to be considered a meme.
Back to Wilder Penfield’s experiments about teasing patient’s brains into evoking memories, like recalling the smell of burnt toast. When this famous Heritage Minutes video came out, many people misunderstood the video and thought that smelling toast meant that you were about to have a seizure or stroke. It’s been an ongoing joke in part of the Canadian consciousness ever since.

Facebook Gets Twitch-y Over Game Streaming
In a bid to lure streamers away from Twitch, Facebook has launched its own “Gaming Creator Pilot Program.”  Facebook says that it’ll help to “build more meaningful and more engaged communities on Facebook than anywhere else.” It seems to us that this is less about gamers than it is about gamers not forgetting about facebook.
We think that this is a perfect visual representation of Facebook and Twitch fighting over gamers.
