The “package delivery” phishing scam is a common way for criminals to extract information from consumers that is later used for identity theft and account hijacking. It’s not limited to any particular company or delivery service, so the best way to protect yourself is to avoid clicking on emails. Instead, log onto the sites directly to confirm delivery details.
This has serious privacy implications for consumers. If you use Amazon products, you should read up on the matter so you can make an informed choice. But Amazon is not being transparent with their customers. They’ve not only made it hard to opt out, they’ve put an expiration date on it, possibly in the hopes that people will stay out of sheer frustration with the opt-out process.
Lots of big news from Apple and Microsoft coming this month, starting with Apple’s WWDC on June 7-11, followed by Microsoft’s announcement about the new version of Windows on June 24.
