Bay will turn his attention to Robopocalypse after he directs 6 Underground this summer. Written by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the secretive Skydance project is described as a cross between Suicide Squad and Bay’s own The Rock.
The director talks about how John Carpenter influenced the film, which finds our old friends Dollface, Pin-Up Girl and Man in the Mask chasing a family (including Christina Hendricks as Mom) around an abandoned trailer park this time around.
“When we met her, she wasn’t actually looking to do another TV show right away,” co-creator and showrunner Erin Cardillo told Tracking Board ahead of the show’s premiere.
The drama will have Golding playing Kit, a British Vietnamese man who travels from London to his birth country of Vietnam to scatter his parents’ ashes.
“Whatever del Toro decides to do next — be it the live-action version of Pinocchio, a remake of either Fantastic Voyage, The Haunted Mansion or the little-seen 1947 noir thriller Nightmare Alley, or something else entirely, he has earned my blind faith after The Shape of Water,” writes Neil Turitz.
“There’s a visual ambition here that I found striking, but not every book makes an easy translation to the screen. I want to see filmmakers subvert and challenge the status quo even as they make Disney blockbusters, and if the results don’t quite connect, at least we see new voices dreaming big in new ways,” writes Drew McWeeny.
