Amorphis (progressive/melodic doom/death from Finland)
A whole bunch of big names have new albums out today, which is cool. My favourite is the new Amorphis. A fun band, if anything. They discovered fun in 1994 with their landmark Tales From the Thousand Lakes and through lots of pentatonic melodies, progressive influences, cheese, saxophones and a coming and going of band members, they’re still so much fun. I’m not sure if I think Halo is as good as Queen of Time yet, but I’ve been really enjoying myself with it the past couple of weeks just as much.
There’s (a lot) more: Voivod (prog/thrash from Canada),
Cult of Luna (sludge/post from Sweden),
Napalm Death (🌶️ grind/death from the UK),
Mortuary Drape (your fathers’ black/death from Italy),
Zeal & Ardor (avantgarde black from Switzerland),
Author & Punisher (industrial/doom/electronics from the USA),
A Pale December (🌶️ dark metal from Italy),
Hangman’s Chair (gothic/doom from France),
Vanaheim (🌶️ pagan/folk from The Netherlands - missed this last week),
Karmanjaka (black from Sweden),
Wait (prog death from the USA - members of Obscura, Defeated Sanity, Cynic),
Alto Arc (🌶️ experimental from the USA - featuring George Clarke from Deafheaven),
Eldritch (black from the UK - missed this too),
The Silent Wedding (heavy/power from Greece),
Hammr (black/speed/punk from the USA),
Nervochaos (death from Brazil),

Inhuman Nature (🌶️ thrash/hardcore from the USA).
