Locally curated talks, workshops, and other events for those interested in creating a startup, growing one, or who want to connect with startups in the Greater Toronto Area.
Good morning, Toronto startups and entrepreneurs! The pandemic has us down but not out. Its recent surge means these next few months are going to be tough — likely even tougher than the pandemic’s first few weeks. It’s OK to feel overwhelmed, unfocused, and unproductive. With the coming winter months and holiday season, it’s important to be generous and accommodating to your reports, your co-workers, and especially yourself. Take time away from work, get outside for a walk even if it’s cold, and take care.
If you’re wondering whether launching an attractive startup is feasible with everyone working remotely, look no further than Tailscale. The startup offers a corporate VPN, was founded in 2019, and is fully remote: a CEO in Montréal, a COO in Toronto, and a CTO in the States. Last week Tailscale secured a $14.5M funding round, which it plans to use to grow its engineering, sales, and marketing teams.
Thinking of taking your idea to market? There are a number of events this week that will help you do just that. Scroll down and check out what’s on offer.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represent the vast majority of the Canadian economy. Those knowledgeable of IP are more competitive than SMEs with little or no knowledge of IP. SMEs that hold formal IP are 3x more likely to grow domestically than those that don’t. IP-generating SMEs are 4x more likely to expand internationally and nearly 2x more likely to have growth rates of more than 20% per year. This virtual panel discussion will delve into creating, protecting, and incentivizing Canadian IP, and building a built-to-scale Canadian business culture.
