Going green is disruptive, and not in a good way.
There I said it.
That’s no excuse to not go green, and sustainability is an absolute must for us to thrive. But banning all use of oil and plastic tomorrow means paralyzing our society. The bedrock of our society was built on ‘un-green’ resources and infrastructure, take these infrastructures away and our society will crumble.
This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t go green, we absolutely should. There is no scenario in which the earth does not thrive but we do. All our human ingenuity require resources of some kind, resources that come from nature. This is why sustainability is such a big deal.
But you knew that already.
So the keyword today is ‘transition’. How do we move from our current way of life, as individuals, as a community and as a species, into something greener and more sustainable?
It’s a big question with many moving parts that we at TEDxPickeringStreet have no answers to. But we thought we should start by greening our own event, and making green events a norm; so that one day there isn’t such a thing as a ‘green event’ and that all events are inherently sustainable. So we implore you to join us in making this paradigm shift. Make green the new norm.
