That’s what I’m sneaking out to think about tonight. It’s really nice to be needed.

I picked Kristina up from the airport today as she’s been in Arizona for Christmas. She picked up a cold there and is surviving through games and a movie as a total trooper. She hadn’t had an appetite, so she skipped most meals riiiiight up until it was time to wind down, when she started craving… avocado toast. Yes. That and only that.
Kris: Would you make me avocado toast?
Me: … Right now?
Kris: Ya. It’s the only thing that sounds good.
Me: ……………….
Kris: Please? I don’t feel good.
Me: Babe, I just remembered I have to make my newsletter tonight!
Kris, half-joking: Yeah, but, what’s more important? Sick me, or your newsletter?
Me:
Lemon, himalayan sea salt and pepper on toasted sourdough

Then, the eye hurts.
An hour later, she thinks she has something in her eye. She’s rolling them around, poking at em, pulling her skin in every direction like she’s mid-exorcism before I butt in.
Me: Do you need help?
Kris: No. Yeah.
We got the mystery item out, then I sat and thought about how nice it is to be needed. These things happen all day every day. They’re small and distracting and quite frankly at times, annoying, until you think about how special it is. Younger me would LOVE to know that I have someone that counts on me to enable their white girl toast habits, or stick my fingers in their eye.
LOL, she just looked up from her phone (after being about 3 years deep on her ex-boyfriend’s instagram) and said “Ugh. There’s still something in my eye.”
That’s my cue.
See you tomorrow,
Taryn
