I realized you could view a website as the current computed state of a long stream of content and code changes. When viewed through that lens, the architecture became clear for a new version of Gatsby that would glue Gatsby to various data sources & solve the really hard problems of static sites: fast incremental builds and parallelizing builds for large and complex sites.
“With Gatsby Inc, we’re building specialized cloud infra to do incremental, parallelized builds — taking the current Gatsby stream processing/cloud-native architecture and pushing it even farther,” Bhagwat — now head of enterprise (and also co-founder) for the new company — explained. The goal is “to practically eliminate the build step entirely: You’ll just make a change, any change — code change or content change — and it will go live immediately.”
We have designed an architecture that follow React way of thinking, by offering a centralized lifecycle. With that in mind we have adjusted our goal and make React & Webpack, 2 core pieces of v0.x, first class plugins in our v1.x. This opens up lot of nice things to support React or Webpack alternatives.

This is not a complex tutorial. This is also not a tutorial aimed at beginners. It is simply an attempt to strip away all the complexities of modern web development in a concerted effort to focus on the singular problem at hand — understanding how Netlify deploys Lambda functions.
Static sites are gaining popularity. Big publishers like the Smashing Magazine rely on static site generation to serve content faster. And they do it without worrying about security fixes or scalable server setups. All you need for static site generation is a CI service that kicks off your build and a static hosting provider to serve your generated static files which we then enrich with serverless technologies.
