The Edit
Pop culture. You don’t have time for it all.
Hi there!
Just when you thought I had completely forgotten, in rolls a Monday edition of The Edit.
Truth be told, I wrote most of this on Friday and then a combination of complex technical issues (dead battery) and meeting Bradley Cooper in a drag bar (didn’t happen) derailed things completely.
So yes, I hope you at least found something to do this weekend and find the following pop culture highlights entertaining enough to get you through the week.
As usual, if you find the content below useful and enjoy the ‘will he, won’t he’ nature of The Edit, please forward this email on to all of your contacts or post something nice about it on social media.
Have a lovely week and I will probably grace your inbox again somewhere around Friday.

Lady Gaga by Marilyn Minter for The New York Times
🎬 Did you hear about the alleged fake interview with Drew Barrymore which was posted on Twitter after appearing in Egyptair’s inflight magazine? Her reps say she didn’t take part, the interviewer and the airline maintain she did. The opening paragraph…
“Despite being unstable in her relationships most of her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years; the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary [sic] take an unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother.”
🌐 Thanks to a tip from The Interface by Casey Newton, I have spent some time in the world of single image Instagram accounts. I think it is fascinating how young people unintentionally subvert social platforms like this. In some cases these accounts are allowing people to blog on a connected platform without the pressure of worrying about their image.
🎬/🎶 Rachel Syme’s NYT Magazine piece on Lady Gaga is a must read. A wonderful appraisal of the singer’s move towards becoming a film star and timely reminder of the twists and turns of an impressive career to date.
🎬 Incidentally, I saw A Star Is Born at the weekend and can confirm Gaga’s status as a fully-fledged grade A film star. She is wonderful. The film itself, very good but not quite what I expected.
📺 The unenviable task of filling the Sunday night slot vacated by Bodyguard on BBC One has gone to The Cry. It turns out to be a very worthy replacement. The first two episodes are on iPlayer now.
🎬 I was quite touched by Sam Lansky’s piece with Steve Carrell and Timothée Chalamet for TIME on Beautiful Boy and the impact of addiction on parent/child relationships.
📚 Recently read ‘Tin Man’ by Sarah Winman, highly recommended. I’m struggling with my goal of reading a book a week at the moment FYI.
📺 What Makes 'The Good Place’ So Good? For one, the most recent episode provided an explanation for Brexit.
🎶 Rita Ora’s Clash magazine cover is quite something.
📺 Watched Doctor Who for the first time since the 1990s last night and I bloody loved it. Jodie Whittaker is certain to bring an army of new fans to the show.
🎧 I have becomes borderline obsessed with Esther Perel’s ’Where Should We Begin?’ podcast after reading this recent interview. Real couples therapy sessions. You feel like you shouldn’t be listening but you can’t stop.
🎶 I completely re-programmed Radio Edit last week and think it is sounding rather good. Let me know if you listen!
Jessie Ware - Overtime
Alice Chater - Hourglass
Ariana and the Rose - Lonely Star
Sigrid - Sucker Punch
Charli XCX & Troye Sivan - 1999
