This week Netflix launched a FREE plan
exclusively available in Kenya. It really is free. All you need is an account. The link in the previous sentence is the announcement post. Below you will find a review of the free plan.
Other things that happened this week:
iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 dropped. Have you updated your iPads and iPhones? (If you’re a beta tester for macOS 12 Beta 7 also became available)
- The European Union (EU) may FORCE Apple to adopt USB Type-C for its iPhones. Yep! If a new law is passed, all consumer electronics sold in the EU will be required to have type-C connectors. Apple claims this will kill innovation. But the EU thinks Type-C standardisation will mean interoperability which will reduce the need for many cables, and chargers, and help save the environment. But… the law only applies to wired chargers (not wireless ones - so Apple may go wireless to avoid this), and it only applies to the part of the charger that gets into your device, not the part on the charger head. What are your thoughts on this?
- The Chinese government hates cryptocurrencies. And they’ve made it official by declaring all crypto-currency transactions illegal. This is despite China being one of the world’s largest crypto-currency markets! Read the details here.
Microsoft remains weird. This week, they launched: Surface Duo 2 with 5G support, cameras, and the same weird dual-screen folding mechanism. They also launched the Surface Laptop Studio which is an iPad, a Laptop, a convertible, and much more combined to one device. They also announced some incredible updates to their lineup of devices. Full details.
