A weekend of deals - Techish Newsletter - Issue #32

Good morning Sir/Madam!
It has been that good weekend of the year where companies have deals to mark the beginning of the festive season. So last Friday was Black Friday (Carrefour had crazy deals - walked in and everyone was getting a TV or a Soundbar!) and today’s Cyber Monday.
If you know your way around importing stuff, the deals on B&H are quite enticing. An M1 MacBook Air for $899, full-fledged drones for $89, among much more.
I don’t know of any local Cyber Monday deals, so you’ll have to make do with that B&H link.
What’s happening that’s important?
  1. DART - stands for ‘Double Asteroid Redirection Test’. Because man is crazy and amazing at the same time, NASA and SpaceX have last week launched a spacecraft that’s set to crash on an asteroid to see if we - as humans - can intercept and redirect asteroids that may be of harm to us in the future. Set calendars reminders for September 2022 when the spacecraft will crash on the Didymos asteroid system at a speed of ~6km/s.
  2. MediaTek Dimensity 9000 - MediaTek has come a long way. And they now have a flagship chipset. The Dimensity 9000 is the world’s first chip built on TSMC’s 4nm process. And it is set to compete with Qualcomm’s and Samsung’s upcoming flagship chipsets.
  3. Apple is building a Self-driving Car (we’ve heard of this for years now) and a VR headset that will have the power of an M1 Mac.
  4. Unlimited CLEAN Energy - Recently, there’s a been a significant breakthrough that may enable man have unlimited access to energy. With Nuclear power, we’ve mostly relied on fission (breaking atoms) to create energy. A new breakthrough in fusion (bringing atoms together) could change how things work forever. Here’s one of my favourite Youtube channels explaining everything.

  1. Kenya’s Asilimia, a fintech startup helping solve financial inclusion for MSMEs, has secured $2 Million pre-seed funding.
  2. Adanian labs is calling for interested outstanding entrepreneurs to apply for their 2022 cohort.
  3. HealthX is a virtual medical facility and it is now up and running in Kenya.
  4. Fahari Innovation Hub by Kenya Airways is set to receive support from Boeing.

Must watch video:
I don’t know if you’ll believe me, but explaining how and why bikes work has proven to be something very complex. Why do they stay upright, what forces act on the bike when moving, and much more. Anyways, yesterday’s video by Veritasium (another of my favourite YouTubers), does a great job at explaining how bikes turn.
We Built An Unrideable Bike To Show How Bikes Work
