I used to think there was this timeline to life where you’d get married sometime in your 20s, have life figured out in your 30s, and then you’re old by the time you are in your 40s. Haha, yes, this is teenage Jessica talking. But, as I have crossed all of those milestones, I realize that everyone has their own timeline for things. And it’s never really too late to do anything.
This week, I took a “learning to bike” class for adults. 🚴🏾‍♀️ It has been something I’ve been a little sheepish about as I got older because I haven’t been on a bike since I was a kid, and memories of that time are very fuzzy. So I wasn’t sure if I could ride or ride well. But there is truth to that cliche about riding a bike. The first step was all about balance, so we balanced on a bike with no pedals to coast for 5-7 seconds. That took a bit of practice, but that muscle memory started coming back before long, and in less than an hour, I was doing laps around the parking lot.
Could I use more practice? Absolutely. And I’m looking forward to taking more classes next summer. But I can’t tell you how proud I felt at that moment. Doing something I wasn’t sure I could do again. And doing it as an old 40-year old. :)
It’s never too late to do something you’ve always wanted to do. Learning to ride a bike, start a newsletter, pursue a passion project or side hustle, travel, get married, or even become a dancer (Fear Experiment show on 9/18!). It’s never too late.
Also on my list: learning to swim. 🏊🏾‍♀️
How about you? is there something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t because you thought your time had passed or that you’re too old? How can we make that happen?
On to the picks!
P.S. Also doing this in September. Wanna join me?

  • 📚. Reading: Last Time I Lied. Emma went to a summer camp 15 years ago, and three of her friends disappeared. She is now going back and is determined to figure out the mystery. It was a slow start, but about a third of the way through, I was gripped. And the ending had me like 😮🤔🤨.
  • 📺. Watching: Wicked in Concert. Tomorrow night on PBS, they are celebrating the music of this beloved Broadway show! It’ll feature Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, and Amber Riley. “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good…”
