Welcome back to the amazing year 2022 for the world of data. Let us dive right into it.
🎁 I am co-authoring a Manning book on the data mesh paradigm which just hit the MEAP stage. That means you can already purchase the book & read the first four chapters. New ones will roll out very regularly. Use the discount code “mlsiwiak” till January the 12th.
I’m Sven, I collect “Data Points” to help understand & shape the future, one powered by data.

Svens Thoughts
If you only have 30 seconds to spare, here is what I would consider actionable insights for investors, data leaders, and data company founders.
- Nbdev is an interesting dev tool. It basically enforces best practices, something which makes working much easier especially for data developers.
- Community-first companies are becoming a thing. While currently mostly reserved for the NFT space, the idea of community-first companies is getting traction. I believe most of the ideas carry over to the open-source and data space as well.
- Product Thinking is for everyone. Not just for software components or external & internal APIs. It’s for data and almost everything we want to manage inside the tech depths of a company.

I am always stunned by how many amazing data leaders, VCs, and data companies read this newsletter. Here I share some of the reader’s recent noteworthy pieces that were shared with me:
What’s In Store For the Future of the Modern Data Stack, written by Barr Moses (Monte Carlo) in conversation with Bob Muglia, about his predictions for the future of the data engineering and analytics stack, 2022 and beyond.
🎄 Thanks => Feedback!
