Hey there,
I had just turned eighteen. From the age of fifteen, I worked in a rose nursery on weekends and holidays.
I was fed up with that job. It was always warm in the greenhouse, my forearms were scratched by thorns, and we barely had a break.
Looking for a nice summer job, I sent letters to thirty companies in the area. There was only one response. The municipality was looking for an administrative employee at the recycling center during the summer holidays.
My prejudice was confirmed: the work at the local government agency was much more relaxed. I had to prepare the paperwork for the garbage trucks, which drove to the garbage dump after their round in my hometown.
Sometimes I also had to do some manual labor on the recycling center.
Then I found out that I had good fringe benefits, especially for an eighteen-year-old boy.
In the back of the waste paper container were a few complete years of Playboy. Not to arouse too much suspicion, I smuggled a few copies home in my bag every day.
The best summer job Iāve ever had.
This was in 2002. Now, about 20 years later, eighteen-year-old boys no longer need paper copies. ;-)
The government still fascinates me, for completely different reasons. For example, I regularly give
lectures for civil servants, administrators and politicians. The theme: technological developments in society.
And that is also the theme of this newsletter. Enjoy reading!
