Hero in Bulletproof BMW Rescues Dozens During ISIS Attack
A Kurdish Peshmerga fighter named Ako Rahman is the hero of the week.
In Kirkuk, Iraq he rescued dozens of civilians under attack and trapped by sniper fire. He did it with his early-90’s armored BMW.
“After we arrived at the scene, we saw many wounded individuals among the security forces and civilians and no one was able to approach them due to the IS snipers. Therefore we decided to help those wounded people since bullets could not penetrate my car,” Rahman told Kurdish news outlet BasNews.
During the attack, which lasted several days, Rahman used his bulletproof beemer to transport 70 injured people to the hospital – all the while being hit with gunfire. Rahman estimates that at the car was hit with at least 50-60 bullets.
BMW wanted to honor Rahman for his bravery and offered to buy him a new car, and place his bullet-ridden car on display at BMW Corporate Campus. He declined and instead offered it to Sulaymaniyah, a local Kurdish museum.
