Here’s a Chicago-Made Gig Economy App for Just About Any Task
The Dablr App
In last week’s newsletter we had a short article on What is GRIT, and Why It Matters? Well, here is a great example of what Grit is all about.
The gig economy is increasingly becoming full of apps that help people find specific types of services or work. Some apps are almost indispensable and make our life easier thanks to technology, the sharing economy and yes, the easy button!
Dablr, launched in September by young (we mean really young) entrepreneurs Jake Obremski, and Neil Glazier, is a ‘gig’ app lets users post a task or job they need done, set a set wage, and filter through and hire applicants who are interested in the task.
Obremski and Glazier first thought of the idea in 2015 while they were high school juniors in the Chicago suburbs. “We went to school for half days,” Obremski said. “The school let us out half way through as long as we had as many credits as we needed. So that was half of our day, and the other half was spent working on Dablr.”
Now the app has passed it’s most crucial validation test and is growing user base at a very rapid scale. The idea is to be at first hyper local, debug all the unforeseen issues and expand rapidly. The most important facet of this early stage pilot is that the feedback from the users and taskers is excellent. Both side use the process and love the model!
Keep an eye on Dablr folks, here’s a Chicago-Made Gig Economy App for Just About Any Task. We love this Team!
And why not support our local startups, make sure the sign up for free at Dablr
Here is also an article on ChicagoInno about Dablr.
Full disclosure, we provide Operating Advisory to Jake and Neil. Regardless of being the youngest entrepreneurs we worked with, they are the sharpest and fastest learning team!

How Solve, a Chicago startup helps address the barrier to employment in undeserved communities?
SOLVING FOR ECONOMIC INCLUSION TOGETHER
A great shout out to Adam Heckman, Microsoft’s Director of Technology and Civic Engagement, for featuring Solves founder Matt Strauss on his Big Shoulders web series! Check out Matt’s full interview with Adam here.
Matt the founder and the “steam” behind Solve Smart Cities came up with the idea of providing a fully integrated platform to help fight the barrier to employment facing the members of undeserved communities. We have known Matt for many years and admire his will, tenacity, respect for learning from advisors, and his hyper focus on getting things done, which are all pluses for a leader. Solve has a terrific complementing team, a diverse group of advisors and a solid idea to change the landscape of lost opportunities in our undeserved communities. Many of the partners involved in Solve (and they have many) strongly believe in the solution they have created and stand behind their process. They have have worked very hard to raise seed funds and have created serious traction in our local communities. Now they need some push in getting some funding to take the entire solution to the next level.
In an era where data is everywhere, and where data is everything, service organizations should be able to use this data in a coordinated way, with the client at the center, to fulfill their collective missions. That is where Solve Smart Cities come in.
Full disclosure, we provide Operating Advisory to Matt and Solve Smart Cities. We are proud to stand behind the solution they provide to our communities.

Blockchain will transform industries in a similar way to the internet. So what industries will be disrupted with this technology if it was to be adopted across the board? Here is an article from Inc. Magazine that outlines nine prominent industries that are slated to be overhauled by blockchain technology in the near future. Banking isn’t the only industry that could be affected by blockchain tech.
