Opening thought: I'm not good at vacations
Let me start this week’s ITK with a public service announcement: I’m currently on leave till the week beginning 24th July, so apologies in advance if I’m slow to respond on email (especially to pitches) or seem a little disconnected. That’s sort of the whole point.
With that said, because I’m slightly insane, I’ve agreed to do two work-related things while I’m off work.
Startup Grind Summer Party
The first is Thursday 13th of July when I’ll be hosting a fireside chat with investor Robin Klein – who some have dubbed the UK’s ‘godfather of VC’ – at Startup Grind’s London Summer Party, which I’m pretty excited about.
Despite knowing him by reputation for many years, it was only last month that we met in person for the first time when I visited LocalGlobe, the seed-stage VC firm Robin founded with his son Saul Klein, to do a feature for TechCrunch.
This time I get up to an hour to put questions to Robin alone, instead of shared with five other members of the LocalGlobe team, so we should be able to go pretty deep. If there is anything you think I should ask him (I have already thought up a few insightful questions), drop me a line.
TechCrunch London Meetup
The following week, on the 19th of July, TechCrunch is hosting a Meetup + Pitch-off in conjunction with the Unbound conference in London. I’m still planning to be there (and I know we have a great lineup of pitching companies and judges), so why not grab a ticket, come along and say hello.
Recording studio booked!
Outside of tech, I’ll be catching up with friends and visiting family, and I’ve booked a day at New Rose Studios in North London to continue work on the album I’m writing and producing.
Most of the record has been recorded at my house and a couple of friends’ project studios, but because we are recording a conga player and percussionist we decided we needed a better live room. New Rose Studios, which used to be called Zed One, has fond memories as it is the studio my defunct band ZUBAIDA used to regularly rehearse in. The owner is an old friend, too.
Good times.
Bonus: Which London fintech is closing in on a multimillion round of Series A funding? I’m planning on breaking at least one story while I’m on leave, so keep an eye on my Twitter stream.
