1. How to avoid unexpected costs on your AWS Lambda test environment

One of the great advantages of Serverless is that you can easily build dedicated stacks for development and testing – allowing you to develop in an environment that’s as close to production as possible.

However, with that ease comes a greater risk of accidentally running up your AWS bill. In this article, Nina Raminelli shares a clever solution to stop that from happening, using AWS Budgets, SNS and Lambda Functions.

2. Keeping SOAs in order with data-oriented service meshes

There have been many articles written about the benefits of using a service-oriented architecture (SOA) when building Serverless systems – including on our blog.

In this article, Adam Miskiewicz discusses how Airbnb handle SOAs at scale with a data-oriented approach to their service mesh – and presents Viaduct, their own battle-tested solution.

3. Amazon Location – add maps and location awareness to your applications

Last month, AWS announced that Amazon Location is now in preview: a new service that lets you create maps, collect location data and define geofences.

The low cost makes it a promising alternative to certain other mapping providers – and they’re planning to add routing API soon too.
