Serverless Transformation #33: Testing EventBridge

Event-Driven architectures come hand in hand with Serverless development, and on AWS that often means using EventBridge. We’ve had plenty of articles in the past that show you how easy EventBridge can make building these event-driven systems, but they usually skip an essential part of any system… testing.

Here Sarah Hamilton shows us a simple strategy for integration testing EventBridge based serverless architectures and teases the release of sls-test-tools!  

We mostly use React Native here at Serverless Transformation HQ, but Google’s Flutter has been piquing our interest for a while now. 

The general release of Amplify Flutter — which includes support for AppSync, API Gateway and Cognito — is excellent news for anyone who’s been waiting to connect a Flutter app to their Serverless stack. 

We’re big fans of the AppSync + DynamoDB stack. It’s easy to authenticate your users using, e.g. Cognito or IAM, but what about when you want to control exactly which data they have access to? This handy list of authorisation use cases is a great place to start (and even includes how to deal with real-time subscriptions!)

Here is an excellent first introduction to what Serverless Architectures look like if you’re just getting started with Serverless. Omar Bheda goes over the very basics of common services like Lambda and API Gateway.
