Internet Archive Scholar
Most people haven’t heard of Internet Archive Scholar. Similar to Google Scholar, Internet Archive Scholar includes >25 million research articles and other scholarly documents preserved in the Internet Archive, from digitized copies of 18th-century journals through to the latest Open Access conference proceedings and pre-prints crawled from the Web. Start from the User Guide where you will find search examples and search operators.
New Search Engines
I joined the beta of ad-free search engine Neeva. Search engine Brave is also in public Beta. Both focus on user privacy. Take a look at DuckDuckGo’s traffic. Capturing Google’s marketshare is no easy task. Plenty of startups are lining up. If you live in the United States and would like a Neeva invite email me.
Search Your Browser Tabs
It’s normal to have dozens of open web browser tabs after skimming through newsletters or RSS feeds. Did you know that web browser tab searching is built right into Chrome? Google search scientist Dan Russell show’s us how (Tip: Shift ⇧ + Command ⌘ + A).
Data Science Newsletter
The list of people considering a certificate or degree in data science is quickly growing. If you want to stay up-to-date in the field, the Academic Data Science Alliance’s community newsletter is excellent. Sign-up here or take a look at the archive.
Open Access Button
Use Open Access Button to download free, legal, research articles delivered instantly or automatically requested from authors. Enter an article URL/DOI/PMID/Title or Citation and download the PDF.
Look to your public and university libraries for digital object identifier (DOI) tools as persistent identification becomes more and more popular. Citation management tool Endnote has acquired Kopernio.
Search University is published by Sebastien Marion. I am 🍃 growing the Search Tools Website, a YouTube channel and the newsletter. I hope you’ll check them out.
