a sane and thoughtful guide to permanent weight loss
A few weeks ago I delivered a talk for CreativeMornings (not a typo), an organization whose core value is that “everyone is creative”. I love public speaking and it was a dream come true to get to choose the topic.
I spoke about the work I did in a past iteration of this newsletter. How our creative pursuits help us understand ourselves and why that’s important. I believe wholeheartedly in the Greek aphorism, “know yourself”. The subject of my talk is how to accomplish that.
My elation quickly vanished when I saw the video. It’s one of the perks of doing the talk, you get a professional video as a takeaway. Mine was, well, not that.
I don’t really know what happened. I suspect this company just didn’t have the skills they purported. In the talk I speak about how great it is to be a beginner, but the caveat is don’t present yourself as an expert when in fact you are not. I cried about it, got angry, and ultimately am still really proud of the work.
You only get a few opportunities in life to show up and shine. I did that.
