Paolini was born in Florence, Italy in 1981, graduating from the Fondazione Studio Marangoni in Florence in 2005. In 2004, he started to pursue his interest in the South American reality, focusing on the new socialist countries: Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela.
For many years he has divided his time between his home country and South America, a continent on which he has chosen to base most of his photographic research. Paolini was previously working on long-term assignments for magazines in Venezuela. In 2009 he started working on a book project, Buscando a Bolívar, traveling through Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela until 2014.
These photographs were made in times of extreme violence and instability for these three countries, and through his work Paolini tried to open a space in which polarized views could co-exist through storytelling. Rather than focusing solely on the instability narrative, the images in Buscando a Bolívar
also represent the complexity of these nations and their histories.
We are happy to announce that Bolivia #03
