Primary a transit issue this week. Toronto is looking to do more to improve its King Street Pilot, but subway riders are concerned that the new line to relieve crowding is taking too long. There’s also concern that Sidewalk Labs’ waterfront smart neighborhood could lead to subsidized ride hailing instead of better transit.
In the United States, debate continues over a new bill that would upzone areas around transit in California, but opponents are concerned it could displace long-time residents. There’s also a new report shining further light on the MTA’s high construction costs.
Finally, Hyperloop has been rejected for a Vancouver-Portland high-speed connection, with a report to Washington state instead suggesting maglev trains. Given my criticism of Elon Musk
, it seems like the right decision. Now to see if it will move forward.
Have a great week!
