Hey urbanists!
Sidewalk Labs’ project at Quayside in Toronto is positioned as the future of city-building, but there are some big concerns about how it’s approaching the planning process and its reliance on technologies from the Alphabet umbrella of companies. Should we let a company lock us into its own digital platform?
Housing is major issues in big cities around the world. On one hand, companies like Airbnb are taking apartments off the market and driving up rents, while on the other developers are building only luxury flats which are left empty by wealthy investors. Both of these need to be addressed. I’ve found the UK Labour Party’s housing policies particularly fascinating, as they propose ideas that have been considered taboo for far too long.
