A lot to "talk" about

December 4 · Issue #2 · View online
Whoa, that fresh new branding!
It’s been a long time since Pixplicity was ‘just’ a mobile app shop. We’ve been creatively exploring all kinds of technology for years now: voice interfacing, including building a custom voice assistant completely from raw hardware components, Machine Learning and AI for use in an awesome interactive mural with image recognition, crazy cool AR that allows fans of a superstar to recreate their style, and so much more!

Can you hear me?
Every decade or so a new technology comes along that changes the way we interact with our machines. So what’s next?
“Voice is the future.” I bet it’s not the first time you heard that…
Eliza just got back from Moscow, New York and Boston to explain the challenges of building an effective conversational app, why Pixplicity has a conversational designer, how we build voice skills, and what it takes for your voice app to take off! We’ve got an in-depth article about it on our blog.
Prototyping some vocal competition
GDG CloudFest kicked off this year with its first edition, and Paul had the opportunity to share some of our insights into voice. Little did we know, right after, we were asked to build a voice assistant from scratch. Completely designed and developed in-house including the hot-word detection!
We’re incredibly excited to be doing everything from hardware to case design and custom machine learning models to natural language processing. For now, this is all we can share, but we can tell you it does some very cool stuff. We can’t wait to tell you more!

Size matters: Your app size is costing you customers
As featured in last weekend’s edition of Android Weekly: our interesting insights on the importance of Android app download sizes and the impact it has on conversion rates. Did you know the install rate is 30% higher for smaller apps? Read the full article to find out how to bring your app size down using Google’s new App Bundles.
Technical deep dive: Data binding in Android
Stefan went into detail about data binding in Android at the Dutch Android User Group earlier this month; check the slides to see his presentation with loads of details about how to leverage this component of Android Jetpack.
As always, it’s much better to discuss these topics over a beer or a coffee. Get in touch with us and let’s talk tech!

We love to talk about the latest in emerging tech and the creative applications for it. And perhaps how Voice, AR or Machine Learning could help your ideas come to life.
