Insights from a UX-lead at a design agency in Utrecht

Kikk.be was almost a month ago but I still wanted to share the highlights with you.
KIKK is an international festival of digital and creative cultures. Its interest lies in the artistic and economic implications of new technologies. A sometimes critical view on current trends in technology and reminding us of our responsibilities as designers.
Dries de Poorter kicked off the festival with one of the best talks of the festival. His installations Jaywalking & Seattle Crime Cams make you wonder about your privacy by combining open feeds of data with an algorithm.
Lynn Cherny had a tech talk about Memory Palaces. Places we construct in our mind with places for the objects we want to recall. She ultimately wanted to use image recognition API’s to create poems based on pictures to prove that artificial intelligence can create art.
Mr Bingo was definitely the funniest talk of the festival. One of his best projects is Hate Mail where people pay him to send a postcard with an offensive message. They are just all work of art.
The talk of Memo Akten was a great trippy show. He had a pre-trained deep neural network making predictions on live webcam input during his talk, trying to make sense of what it sees, in context of what it’s seen before.
It can see only what it already knows. (Check out his video’s)
