Welcome to the Moolah Newsletter

Moolah
Hey friends,
Today marks the first issue of the Moolah newsletter.
I’m expecting this project to evolve as I ask new questions and dive down new rabbit holes, but expect this to focus on crypto.
Why crypto, you might ask?
Because I firmly believe crypto and blockchain is the greatest commercial innovation since the Internet. There are so many new directions that crypto is taking us: Web3, zero-proof cryptography, decentralized autonomous organizations, NFTs, separation of money and state, it’s absolutely insane how much there is to explore within this space right now.
With that said, there are a few particular areas that really have my attention right now:
  • Non-fungible tokens (NFTs)
  • Decentralized organizations and community management
  • Mimetic theory
  • Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
  • Zero-proof cryptography
Maybe that’s not a few, but I promise I’ll share the best things I’ve discovered along with occasional thoughts of my own as I grapple to understand these things.
In the meantime, here are my best finds from the past week :)

My discoveries
Don Wilson’s Hidden Empire - For anyone that got hooked on high-frequency trading (HFT) firms after reading Michael Lewis’ book Flash Boys, here’s a short profile of Chicago-based HFT firm DRW and its founder Don Wilson. What I found especially compelling was their early move into cryptocurrencies, and how that bold prediction has paid off.
Vitalik Buterin & Naval Ravikant on The Tim Ferriss Show - This is a long (2 hour) but worth-it podcast with Ethereum’s founder, Vitalik Buterin. What I found most interesting was Vitalik naming zero-proof cryptography as the next great disruption in crypto. Tim also gets Vitalik to share some of his language learning methods (hint: Pimsleur!) which I found enjoyable.
The World According to Bad Bunny - One of my favorite articles, ever. Carina del Valle Schorske writes with such force that it’s hard not to keep reading, and then feel sad when it’s over similar to when you finish a good book. If anyone wants to better understand why Bad Bunny has become such a global phenomenon, and how he’s contributed to Latin music being the hottest music in culture, read this.

can crypto merge with sports betting? I'm imagining a world where you hold $Ngannou coin, stake it in a sports betting platform, and earn a share of the profits if he wins a fight. you can multiply your winnings by also betting.
