Hey all, yes, 1 year of the Open Voice newsletter.
For one, there is more coverage from publications like Harvard Business Review and New York Times. In Holland the online news channel Nu.nl doesn’t miss any rumor or snippet. It’s not just Voicebot any more with in depth Voice articles.
We are also way more involved in the market. Not just helping customers with our respective employers Merkle and Nodes Agency. Almost once a week you can catch each of us on various stages sharing insights on Voice. Also, Maarten now has an official Voice job title: Global Head of Voice 8-)
A year ago Voice in the Netherlands was only Siri. No Voice services until October last year when we saw a strong launch by Google with many main brands committing to join in. Now, 8 months later the first ones like Rituals, Q-music, Andrelon and Transavia seem to have jumped of the Voice band wagon. Not surprising when you hear that some get 10’s of users a week. Where as Intergamma and 24kitchen jump on and KLM, Talpa and Albert Heijn continue their focus (some have 10.000s of users a week, not bad). Voice is even a category with the Spider Advertising Awards
with Auping, KLM and KRO-NCRV winning last week.
A year ago we didn’t have our podcast. This last one
is with Annemiek Bakker and Felix Poldermans from insurer Centraal Beheer who with their team of 12 do good work with the conversational channel.
Now what about the use case? What do people really do with their speaker in Holland? News is strong. As part of the morning routine the Dutch news is racking up usage as is radio. Although not officially we hear good things about these categories. No word from Albert Heijn about shopping numbers. Bummer that there are no run away succeses yet of brand and other service cases. That we know of.. feel free to enlighten us if we have this wrong!
Holland does have a unique consortium with Achmea, Anbo, SVB, Nodes Agency and Google exploring together how Voice can have a positive impact on the lives of older adults. Its called Project Zilver
and is a global first for the channel.
The Dutch Association for Data and Marketing started the Voice Commission Voice
this year. Under the leadership of Sam the members KLM, Google, Nodes Agency, Merkle, Rabobank, ANWB, KPN, 52D, Embot and Talpa work to grow Voice as a channel. first tangible deliverable will be a legal 101 guide for all organisations starting out in Voice.
