The above image went viral on Twitter, and I get why. Some people are having reservations about getting a smart speaker into their house due to privacy reasons.
I think this is perfectly legitimate; you should think through the implications of every new technology you adopt. At the same time, do these people realize that they likely have had a smart assistant with them for at least a couple of years already?
The image shows an iPhone, but it could have been any recent smartphone. I used to have a Moto X (2013) which was prized for making a model of your voice in order to pick up commands.
Still, it’s good to be aware that all this possible in a growing amount of devices. And since Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant ask for permission once, the devices around you will have access to a lot of person information in order to provide a better experience. If there is something to think about, it’s what type of experience the assistant will optimize for.
