Hey All,
Woohooo, we made it to a 100! Please share the love with #openvoice100 on the socials plus why you like it and the subscribe link. We need to grow this 8-)
Maartens thoughts of this special issue:
No issue skipped in the last almost 2 years that me and Sam do this. Thank you Sam for your dedication and drive. Without you I wouldn’t have made it!
I thrive on the edge of that what is coming. Voice is as a new development is exciting. This last week for me showed it again. Ignited by the conversations during the Voice Lunch international and now also the NL one I dove deeper than normal into conversation design, contextual stacks (see below what that means) and saw a new potential national data initiative emerge.
That is what it is about. Being in the place where “it”: happens. Feed it with ideas and questions together. Making that what sticks happen. I can’t wait what the next 100 will bring!
Sam’s retrospective:
Ever since I had my first job (mainly in mobile, at the start of the smartphone wave) I’ve looked for ‘the next big thing.’ I never had the feeling that any of the so called disruptions were going to get any significant traction in the short term. The Voice space does give me that feeling.
With rapid developments on what’s technically possible, people (consumers, friends, my kids, etc) around me using voice (even without a clear cut use case). With so much happening, it has been such a pleasure to collect and share the movements in this space through this newsletter.
Let’s see if we can extend this newsletter another 100 editions. I’ll continue to collect the developments as long as there is exciting news to share.
As to Maarten: it has been a pleasure to be in this together. If it was not for doing this together, I might have dropped an issue or two over the past two years. We’ll see where the journey takes us.
“De eerste #voicelunchNL”
Last week was exciting with the first #VoicelunchNL. We met new people, chatted and tried to solve some interesting questions about the state of Dutch synthetic voices and more. Join on the 6th:

DDMA Digital Talk May 28th: Every thing you need to know about Voice and privacy
…and were to afraid to ask. Sam, Bart Bellefroid from Rabobank and Matthias de Bruyne, the Legal expert at the DDMA will take you though the in-s and outs as described in the Voice & Privacy primer available here. Any organization that’s gearing up to get on board with Voice needs to be there.
Voice Lunch Global
Well, now that we run our own one we should also share about the incredible source and inspiration. Its every Tuesday and Wednesday and Maarten just can’t miss them. A great way to keep tabs with the international community.
Now, on with the news…
Stacks and Context
Below the video Braden Ream shared after last weeks #Voicelunch where stacks and the Voiceflow context model. As a human you quickly understand when you refer to it, which it that would be. This is based on your contextual understanding. In Conversation design you need to design this in your flow.

"The operating system completely evaporates. [...] It becomes 'can you understand my voice commands?'"

"It gets back to 'just make this thing work for me.'"

Reports
This week we saw the release of two important reports: from NPR and from Voicebot (which also launched a serious research business, get a subscription for the REAL data). A good resource for slides to convince customers and management!
THE Conversational UX guru: Robert Moore
Well, some of us think so. Check him out for the basics we all need to know.

Every new medium, every new channel needs a lot of marketing to get just a tiny bit of usage. Its even worse in Voice as there is no discovery. Kane Simms explains here 2 key strategies on how to get you Voice apps discovered.
