Eat, at Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream.
Morgenstern’s is a modern ice cream shop located in The Lower East Side. It’s a small and bright blue boutique with a contemporary and clean branding, designed like a parlor.
Their purpose is to offer a real unique ice cream experience with texture driven ice balls. They have rich and innovative flavors like butter pecan, vietnamese coffee, lemon espresso, honey mango and even four varieties of vanilla but their iconic flavor is surely Coconut Ash.
Have you ever heard of Coconut Ash, the black ice cream?
This original and intriguing idea comes from Nicholas Morgenstern, the creative owner of the parlor. Coconut Ash is a flavor mainly made of coconut shells and charcoal which give the black color to the ice ball, unusual but clearly in vogue in New York since last summer.
So then I had to try it, and I really enjoyed it. The green tea pistachio (it comes with real pistachio nuts) and their famous coconut ash have become my f(l)avorites. The tastes are pretty well-balanced, creamy but not too sweet. Just be careful, the carbon color is so intense that it leaves you with black lips.
