The latest news in tech, marketing, and what was actually interesting in tech and culture curated by @oliviameng from New York

Good evening on this Thursday night. Hope your week went well.
The beautiful fall season is here in New York. Enjoy some outdoor time.
In this week’s issue, let’s take a deep dive into mobile.
Wechat, one app rules them all and it does everything for you. Wechat works as the digital wallet, messaging app, booking system, social network, and even become the primary platform for long-form content distribution. It was developed by the leading Chinese internet giant Tencent and now WeChat roughly had 1 billion active users. Check out the article published by a16z.
Next, Let’s also check out Facebook’s new acquisition, The Guardian’s Artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for journalism, Google’s education initiative(I posted the link in the last issue), and some fun gifs business.
Lately, I watched Facebook live chat with Tinder’s Product Manager Samantha Stevens. Here is the list of the ideal product person she talked about:
  • passion for problems
  • empathic for the users
  • have a channel to communicate
  • being proactive
  • ideas could be terrible
  • prioritizing markets by data
Good talk, and see you next week.
